Communal crisis: Enugu Govt suspends two traditional rulers

The Enugu State Authorities, immediately, suspended the traditional rulers of Akwuke and Akwuke Uwani autonomous communities, in Enugu South Native Authorities Space, HRH Igwe Bernard Nwoye and HRH Igwe Cyprian Ekwomchi, respectively.

That is over allegations of misconduct resulting in a mass protest to the Authorities Home, Enugu, by indigenes of the two communities.

The suspension, which is for 30 days, within the first occasion, in response to a press release by the Secretary to the State Authorities, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, was within the curiosity of peace, order and good governance and in compliance with Part 10 (b) of the Traditional Rulers Regulation, Cap 151 Revised Legal guidelines of Enugu State, 2004.

The assertion additional added that the State Commissioner for Chieftaincy Issues, Dr. Charles Egumgbe, pursuant to Part 16 (1) of the Traditional Rulers Regulation “has initiated an Administrative Enquiry” in respect of the allegations in opposition to the affected traditional rulers.
